  Licensing?
How do I license Cart3D (or any other NASA product for that matter)?

Contacting the NASA Ames Technology Partnerships Division:

  Licensing?
Following current NASA policy, software packages like Cart3D are distributed to the public by licensing arrangements with industry.  Now that beta testing has been closed, organizations interested in obtaining and using Cart3D have 2 options:
    1. License Cart3D from NASA - This option is most appropriate if you primarily intend to distribute Cart3D, or if you intend to use Cart3D within a product you already distribute or plan to distribute.
    2. Obtain a copy of Cart3D through one of NASA's licensees - This option is most appropriate for those who wish to use Cart3D, but not distribute/re-distribute it.

How do I license Cart3D (or any other NASA product for that matter)?
The first step is to contact the NASA Ames Technology Partnerships Division. They will give you the necessary paperwork to initiate the process. As developers, we don't get very involved with this. However, having been through it a few times I can tell you what you'll need:
  • An idea of which market(s) you want to use/distribute Cart3D in
  • An idea of whether you'd be interested in an exclusive, partially-exclusive or non-exclusive license.

What industries have already been applied for?
All outstanding license applications have been processed by the Technology Partnerships Division, licensed industries are covered in the next section.
  Who are the current licensees?
By law, license applications get listed in the  Federal Register (search for "National Aeronautics and Space Administration"). When NASA's negotiations in any particular industry are complete, we'll list the licensees by name here so you'll know who to contact. In addition, you're welcome to contact the Technology Partnerships Division and request further information or express your interest.
