Release of Chimera Grid Tools Version 1.2

• Port to LINUX operating system: a number of modifications were made for successful compilation with the GNU gcc and g77 compilers.
• Several minor improvements and fixes were made to various programs and scripts.
• OVERGRID version 1.4 with many new features

• This version of the Chimera Grid Tools was ported onto Redhat version 6.1 installation of LINUX, onto which was installed MESA 3.1 and GLUT 3.7.
• The configure script will automatically build Makefiles which will use the GNU gcc and g77 compilers.
• WARNING: In order to successfully build the double precision option on LINUX, you must have version 2.95.2 or later of the GNU g77 comiler, or use another FORTRAN compiler.
• Problem with og.c and Mesa: there appears to be some incompatability between this version of OVERGRID and our installation of MESA 3.1 which cause a segmentation violation when OVERGRID is initilizing the graphics.  This problem goes away if the following two lines are commented out in the chimera/gui/og.c soure file (near the end of the file):
    glDepthFunc(GL_LESS);
    glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST);

• New TRIGED module with all batch mode TRIGED functions
• Redistribution in J, K or L direction for volume grids in SRAP, and new experimental automatic redistribution option in J only (see below)
• Fixed bug in data loading for .tri files with multiple components
• Scale with different factors in x, y and z in GRIDED and TRIGED
• New function for surface and volume of revolution in GRIDED
• Removed the need and i/o temporary bitmap files
• Compatibility with tcl/tk 8.1.1, 8.2.2, 8.2.3, 8.3.0.
• Fixed bug in user-specified filenames in script recording

• The scale function in GRIDED was modified to accept different scale factors in x, y and z. It is also backward compatible, i.e. it still accepts a single scale factor for all directions.
• A new function was added to GRIDED to generate a surface/volume of revolution from a curve/surface.
• A new experimental redistribution option was added for the J direction in SRAP which automatically reduces grid spacings at sharp corners and at regions of high curvature, and allows the user to specify a maximum distance deviation between the original and redistributed curves.
• Volume grids can now be redistributed in SRAP.
• A more robust stencil search procedure for triangular databases was implemented in SURGRD.
• New routines were added to SEAMCRT to automatically determine O and H seam corner types; and automatically trim, duplicate and redistribute seam curves appropriately.

Users on NAS machines

Users on NAS machines have the option to link to pre-compiled executables on server machines. Choose the appropriate installation, and make both of the following additions to your path and to your environment. To access these directories on vn or eagle, you must be added to our Access Control List (ACL). Contact Stuart Rogers, rogers@nas.nasa.gov, to be added. (If you are a user outside NASA, you will have to sign a non-disclosure statement first). These examples are for /bin/csh users:
• SGI workstations on .nas.nasa.gov network, single precision:

set path = ( /r/octane13/u/wk/chimera/cgt1.2/bin $path )
setenv SCRIPTLIB /r/octane13/u/wk/chimera/cgt1.2/scriptlib
 
• SGI workstations on .nas.nasa.gov network, double precision:

• vn and eagle:

OVERGRID users on NAS workstations also have to copy the following preferences file and put it in the user's home directory:
/r/octane13/u/wk/chimera/cgt1.2/bin/.overgridrc
