Release of Chimera Grid Tools Version 2.0
Version 2.0 of Chimera
Grid Tools is now ready for your testing and use.
ALL current and new users will need to sign a new general Software Usage
Agreement form for version 2.0 and return it to the NASA Ames Office of
Technology Partnerships by FAX (650) 604-7486. Select one of the following
forms based on the user's employer category.
There have been many changes and bug fixes, and there will most likely be new bugs.
A Fortran 90 compiler and a C compiler are required to compile this package.
CGT 2.0 has been ported to Linux, Unix, Mac OS-X on Intel Macs, and Windows XP.
For the Windows XP port, it is only in alpha test mode - only executables are
available, and there will be no user support. Main new features in CGT 2.0 are
described below. See chimera2.0/doc/log.txt for more details.
New CGT utilities are in red, existing utilities are in blue
OVERGRID:
- Added input interface to load in surface triangulation representation
of native CAD parts using CAPRI.
- Added auto-detection and reading/writing of big or little endian plot3d
grid files, added auto-detection and reading of big/little endian grid
and solution files for solution viewer. `Endianess' of CGT executables
must still match those of loaded grid files in OVERGRID.
- Added general image dump capability based on the `convert' program
(has to be in user's path). Most file formats supported by `convert'
are now writable from overgrid.
- Added zoom box capability that does not use overlay planes (functional
but successive box sequence is visible due to unknown Togl problem).
- Solution viewer - added log function for scalars and velocity vectors
function.
- Components animation viewer - added options to show center of mass
trajectory, retain snapshot image of component orientation, and forces
and moments vectors at different instances in time.
- Modified message box in Entity Highlight Window to text box so that
text can be cut and pasted.
- Added calculator for non-dimensionalization of 6-dof and mass properties
input parameters.
- Added new TRIGED triangulation functions to select by component number,
and to break up a triangulation by disjointedness and sharp edge criteria.
- Added strand/prismatic and AMR Cartesian grid viewer.
- Fixed long time tmp array memory bug involving small curves and stretching
function computation for number of points needed.
- Compatibility upgraded to be up to Tcl/Tk version 8.4.13.
CAD interface via CAPRI: two new tools are available to enable surface grid
generation on native CAD geometry via the CAPRI interface. Since CAPRI is a
commercial software, users who wish to have these capabilities can request
executables from CADNexus. All other modules in Chimera Grid Tools (CGT)
should function independently from these CAPRI related modules.
- CAD2SRF - creates a surface triangulation from a native solid
CAD model with CAD volume and face tags stored at each triangle.
- SRF2CAD - projects a structured surface grid generated onto the
triangulation produced by cad2srf back to the original CAD model.
SCRIPTLIB: Added new procedures for boundary conditions setting, X-ray
hole cut instructions, deleting grids, triangulations transforms, creation of grids around
arbitrarily oriented cylinders, creation of cap grids over axis singularity, creation of
full body grid system from half body grid system.
COMBINEMX, COMBINEMQ: Tools for combining multiple grid and q files.
GRIDED: Added preservation of constant x/y/z for rotate and revolve
functions about x/y/z axis, added new rotate option to specify 3x3 transformation matrix,
modified reflect option to concatenate with original grid to form grid that may or may not
be periodic.
HYPGEN: Widened format statements for negative Jacobians and volumes output
and modified line continuation for Intel compiler bug.
MINMAX: Added more digits of precision in minmax outputs.
MIXSUR: Added negative surface numbers in component definition.
Added output of fake q file for geometric moment maps (q.gmm, can be read in with grid.ibi).
Added output grid.ib for surface subset with domain connectivity
iblanks (to be used with q.sur from overint for skin friction surface plots).
OVERINT: Modified triq file output to have Cp in first slot, q1-5 in
slots 2-6, laminar viscosity in slot 7, zeta velocity derivatives
in slot 8-10, and wall grid spacing in slot 11.
Modified code to read in grid.ib (optional) and compute skin
friction coefs on original quad surface subsets with domain connectivity iblanks.
OVERPLOT/OVERHIST: Added extended fomoco format with moment breakdowns
to be compatible with OVERFLOW 2.0z and later.
Added 1-click, 6-plots template plotting option for forces/moments with xmgrace.
P3DCONVERT: Tool to auto-detect plot3d grid/q files and OVERFLOW-2
q files and convert between big and little endian formats. CART3D tri files are also accepted.
PIP: Added option to compute principal moments and axes of inertia
from general 3x3 inertia tensor, added output of GMP block for principal
axes orientation and angle.
PROGRD: Improved nearest cell search algorithm to return perpendicular
distance for determining starting cell of stencil search.
SEAMCRT: Added option to create periodic surface curve by walking along
existing edges.
SPLITMX, SPLITMQ: Modified to allow subset extraction at non-integer
index locations.
STR2TRI: Added tool to convert abutting structured surface panels in
PLOT3D format to unstructured triangulation in CART3D format.
SURGRD: Added option to project to native CAD geometry via CAPRI/srf2cad.
TRIGED: Added option to separate faces into different components by
disjointedness, and sharp edges.
USURP: Tool for overset grid force/moment computation using weighted
quads by David Boger (Penn State).
XINTED: Tool for performing various combination functions to grid,
XINTOUT, and INS3D boundary conditions files.
